Current state of tablets
I WANT A TABLET. I WANT ONE NOW.
I think this will be the year the tablet computer really takes off, one reason being the hardware is now mature enough to create a great device. Tegra2 looks very promising http://www.macrumors.com/2010/01/08/ces-2010-nvidia-tegra-2-to-power-tablets-in-2010/.
The other reason being that Apple will release theirs this year, be crazy successful, and the clones will follow. But I will predict that what nobody but Apple (and maybe Google with Android) will understand is that OS UI needs to be redesigned to be, not just ‘finger-friendly’, but designed for touch-input from the start. This is why the iPhone OS feels so natural and has been a success and Windows Mobile as fallen into obscurity. In a touch interface, people do not want to manipulate windows that were designed to be clicked on with pixel-precision.
The JooJoo tablet also looked very interesting to me but I predict it will fail to have the polish that Apple tablet will surely have.
